India's challenge at the Wimbledon 2021 came to a heart-breaking end on Wednesday night after Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna crashed out of mixed doubles event in London.

The unseeded Mirza and Bopanna went down fighting 3-6 6-3 9-11 against Andreja Klepac and Jean-Julien Rojer in their round of 16 clash which lasted just over two hours on Court No. 2 at Wimbledon.

Klepac and Rojer had clinched the first set on Tuesday before rain forced a suspension in play.

The Indians hit back with a stunning display in the second set and looked like the favourites to clinch the match at the half-way stage but the Slovenian-Dutch pair just held on to their nerves and won the crucial points to emerge on top in the match.

The Indian pair lost even after hitting more aces and winners in the match against the 14th seeds. Mirza and Bopanna hit 16 aces and 29 winners as compared to five aces and 14 winners from Klepac and Rojer.
