Tons of celebrities ended up missing the event, here are the ones who revealed why they ended up declining to attend.

Blake Lively

Blake Lively, who over the years has caught everyone’s attention with her colour-coordinated dress matching the Met Gala’s carpet, missed the 2024 edition as well. The American actress reportedly wanted to spend time with her fourth child, so she decided to skip the show and instead watch it from the comfort of her home on TV.

Anne Hathaway

The American actress, Anne Hathaway, who has always been in attendance at the Met Gala, skipped this year’s event. According to various reports, the actress was really busy with the press run of her latest film, Idea Of You, which was released on OTT on May 2, 2024. Hence, Anne decided to give the gala a miss this time.

Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce

While TMZ reports that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were both invited separately, they both skipped the event this year. Taylor‘s tour kicks off again this week in Paris, France, but it’s unclear if that’s why she turned down the invite.

Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid, the supermodel and sister of Gigi Hadid, missed the 2024 Met Gala for reasons best known to her. She has previously opened up about leaving the industry once and for all. According to a report by Cosmopolitan, Bella has been working on starting her business empire and more recently, launched her perfume brand, Orebella.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin Bieber

The Biebers, who have always turned heads with their sartorial picks, skipped this Met Gala 2024 owing to Justin’s health. A source close to the couple has revealed to Entertainment Tonight that the Canadian singer has been facing several difficulties lately. Sharing how Hailey has been taking care of her husband, the source added:

“Justin has been facing some difficulties lately. He has been having a hard time and hasn’t been feeling like his usual self. Hailey has been doing her best to be there for Justin, but it is upsetting for her to see him struggle. They are doing their best to make things work and be supportive of each other. They are committed to doing whatever it takes to make things better.”

Katy Perry

While Katy chose to skip the gala this year, her AI-imagined picture has now gone viral on the internet. The singer later revealed the truth that she could not attend the Met Gala as she was working. Katy also mentioned that the picture even fooled her mother. 

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, who made their relationship official on the prestigious red carpet of the Met Gala, missed this year’s event. Earlier, PeeCee mentioned in an interview that she would be filming around the same time, so it won’t be possible for her to be a part of the fashion extravaganza. Meanwhile, Nick recently took to his Instagram and shared that he caught influenza A due to which he had to cancel everything on his work front.

Rihanna

The queen of the Met Gala, Rihanna, too, missed the 2024 event. Riri, who is known for gracing the red carpet the last, reportedly contracted the flu and had to cancel her plans this time. Previously, she had teased her fans when she revealed that she would keep her dress very low-key this time. Unfortunately, the Barbadian singer’s fans could not get a glimpse of her on the red carpet owing to her bad health.

Amy Schumer

Amy Schumer skipped due to a Life & Beth season two screening with the Writers Guild of America East, which took place on Monday (May 6) as well

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek was at a state dinner in France the same night as the Met Gala.

Miranda Kerr & Evan Spiegel

 Miranda Kerr and her husband both skipped as she recently gave birth.

Miranda posted on Instagram, “Happy Met Gala Monday! Decided to sit this one out with our newborn Can’t wait to see all of the beautiful looks tonight!”

Anitta

Anitta confirmed she’d be skipping to attend Madonna‘s tour conclusion show in Brazil.

“I’ve been to the Met Gala three times, it was so good. I wanna be back next year. But this year, Madonna is doing a concert in Brazil…we had a song together in Portugeuse. When I got the invitation, I was like, ‘I’m definitely going to go to that.,” she shared with Extra.

 “So for me, it’s really important for me to be there in that moment [with Madonna],” she added.

Jared Leto

Jared, 52, told E! News that unfortunately he wouldn’t be able to attend the 2024 Met Gala because he and his band 30 Seconds to Mars will be in Europe for their Seasons World Tour.

“Back on the road,” Jared said. “It’s been five years.”

“I will be there in spirit with my head and my cat wishing everybody a beautiful night,” Jared added.

Billy Porter

Billy Porter skipped the Met Gala.

While attending the Time100 Gala on Thursday (April 25), Billy shared why he was missing the event.

“I just lost my mom,” he told E! News. “I have to take care of myself, so I’m doing that. And that means not going to the party sometimes.”

The actor and singer added that “daddy’s tired,” and “I can’t do everything.”

Nicola Peltz

Nicola Peltz did not join her husband Brooklyn Beckham at the event. They explained why on social media.

“Missing my beautiful wife tonight as my date :(,” Brooklyn shared on his Instagram Story from in the car on his way to the event. “but happy she’s with naunni x can’t wait to see you both tomorrow baby.”

Anya Taylor Joy

Anya Taylor Joy skipped the Met Gala because she was doing press for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in Mexico on Monday (May 6). The film hits theaters on May 24.

Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo likely skipped because she has her Guts world tour in Scotland tonight (May 7).

John Legend & Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen revealed she was never actually going to the Met Gala this year.

While posting that she injured herself doing a headstand and thus, wearing a neck brace, she drew some fan concern. “This is not why I’m not at the Met. I was never going to the Met this year. Please. I’m so stupid for having made this a thing. I’m sorry,” Chrissy shared.

Gisele Bundchen

Gisele Bundchen was rumored to be attending, but did not end up going.

About why she skipped the Met Gala, a source told People, “She’s busy with her family down in Miami. She has a totally full life and she’s very busy with her kids.” The source added: “Plus, she’s been working more than she has in 20 years this past year. She has so many projects; she’s been working all the time.

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake did not join his wife Jessica Biel at the event.

Justin is currently on tour for his Forget Tomorrow World Tour and he actually had a show on Monday night in San Jose, Calif. His rep confirmed to E! News that he was unable to attend the event because of work.

Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck did not attend the Met Gala, despite his wife Jennifer Lopez being a co-chair.

 Ben didn’t join his wife because he’s busy in production filming his new movie, The Accountant 2. He stayed back in Los Angeles while JLo made the trip to New York City. In fact, E! reports that Ben was never actually ever signed up to attend the event!
