Banks to remain closed today

All banks and financial institutions will remain closed on November 9 (today) on the occasion of Iqbal Day, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Tuesday issued a circular in this regard addressing the president and chief executives of all banks, development financial institutions, and microfinance banks on the occasion of Allama Iqbal’s birthday.

Likewise, Pakistan Stock Exchange will remain closed on November 9 on Iqbal Day. The government has issued a notification in this regard.

However, there will no holiday in the Supreme Court and it will hold a regular hearing tomorrow.  

Lahore High Court has also announced holiday on November 9.

It is pertinent, the government has announced a local holiday on November 9 across the country on the occasion of Iqbal Day, the birth anniversary of poet of the East, Allama Mohammad Iqbal. Interestingly, the public holiday on Dr Allama Iqbal’s birth was suspended in 2015 during the previous tenure of PML-N.
