Govt announces providing sugar on Rs78 per kg next year

Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Food Security Jamshed Iqbal Cheema Friday announced his government would provide sugar at an official rate of Rs78 to Rs80 per kilogram from next year.

According to 24News HD TV Channel, Cheema holding a press conference in Islamabad said Pakistan would produce 2.6 million tons of extra sugar that would help to reduce its price.

He said more than 100 million tons of sugarcane has been produced this year, which is expected to produce 9 million tons of sugar.

Cheema also announced that his government would also provide an interest-free loan of up to Rs3.5 lac to the farmers as well as a crop insurance pilot project is also being launched in four districts.

About the cotton production, he said the country would produce 10 million bales this year that was 5.7 million tons last year while the price of cotton in the world market is at a record level which will increase the income of the farmers.

He said that sugar, pulses, flour, and rice would be provided at cheap rates to the 2.5 million families across the country.
