UN Secretary-General Guterres arrived Pakistan on Sept 9 and visited several areas ravaged by floods, calling for increased global financial support aimed at raising awareness of the disaster.

“Pakistan needs massive financial support. This is not a matter of generosity; it is a matter of justice…Today it's Pakistan, tomorrow it could be your country wherever you live. This is a global crisis ... it requires a global response,” Guterres told a news conference at the end of his visit.

On Oct 4, the United Nations launched a fresh appeal of over 800 million dollars for Pakistan flood victims on the basis of updated on-ground assessment of the situation in the country.
