Pakistan People's Party Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reiterated his party’s resolve to improve literacy, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Thursday.

In his message on International Literacy Day, Bilawal called improving the literacy rate the best strategy for sustainable development.

It has become inevitable to turn literacy into a national movement. Pakistan's performance in many fields has been outstanding since independence, but the number of illiterates in the country is alarmingly high, he said, adding that illiteracy is also a reason behind problems like poverty, unemployment, intolerance, and unrest.

He continued: "In every term, the PPP gave top priority to education. Most schools and colleges were established during the regime of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (Shaheed). Benazir Bhutto (Shaheed) increased the education budget and established higher education institutions."

Bilawal Bhutto renewed the PPP's resolve to continue its struggle to provide free education across the country as without raising the literacy rate to 100%, the dreams of the founding fathers of the nation can't come true.
