The sit-in of the joint opposition in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in front of the Chief Minister's House continued for the second consecutive day, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

The opposition parties’ legislators set up a sit-in on the road in front of the CM House to protest over the discriminatory distribution of funds.

Lawmakers from the opposition parties, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Awami National Party (ANP) Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) participated in the sit-in. The protest camp also demanded the release of uplift funds for opposition lawmakers.

CM Mahmood Khan sent refreshments and face masks to opposition MPAs as a courtesy.

Opposition erected a tent to stage their protest opposite the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar to press for their demand for the release of development funds and share in jobs for them.

CM House Spokesperson Furqan Kakakhel said that the government was not afraid of the opposition’s protests; however, with a second wave of the COVID-19 they feared for the health of the protesting lawmakers hence distributed facemasks and tea among them.

The opposition benches have applauded the goodwill gesture but also demanded that they needed justice, not tea, they said. Meanwhile, treasury lawmakers did not pay any attention to the protesters, with none of them was stopped to even exchange greetings while on their way to the provincial assembly nearby.

Earlier, addressing the sit-in, Inayatullah Khan of JI said the government had failed on all fronts and the chief minister did not look beyond his own constituency in Swat. Sardar Hussain Babak of ANP said the camp would continue daily from 10am to 5pm.

KP Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani visited the sit-in and met the protesting MPAs on Tuesday.
