JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday said the Senate elections would be bogus if held through the current assemblies, adding that they would talk about the supremacy of law and Constitution, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Talking to media persons in Islamabad after a meeting of the key PDM leaders, Fazl said the incumbent rulers were neither democratic nor the people’s representatives.

How we can describe the system as democratic when the government is illegitimate, remarked the JUI-F chief who was flanked by other opposition leaders like PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz.

He vowed that the December 13 rally would be held according to the programme in Lahore despite the hurdles created by the government. “They say they won’t stop [the PDM from holding] the rally and are also not giving permission [for it],” said Fazl who added that the government was trying to make a dam at Minar-e-Pakistan.

Setting aside the rumours surrounding this meeting, Fazl said he invited Maryam and Bilawal for a luncheon.

The remarks came as the government on Tuesday employed the decades-old formula and watered the Greater Iqbal Park where the Minar-e-Pakistan is located.

He again told reporters that it was the PDM steering committee that would finalise the timing of future actions including submission of resignations. The decisions had been taken at the Tuesday’s meeting, said the JUI-F chief who is also the PDM head.  

Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal said they would employ every weapon to oust the PTI government. “We will send both the selected and his facilitators back home,” he remarked and added that the opposition was on the same page and state.

Maryam too promised that the rally would be at the announced time and venue. She seconded Fazl while stressing that the decisions had been taken at the PDM meeting. 

Earlier, the opposition leaders met again to discuss different issues just after the PDM top leadership’s meeting.

Meanwhile, it is PML-N Secretary-General Ahsan Iqbal who, being its convenor, will chair the steering committee at 5pm on Wednesday (today), which scheduled is to discuss the issues related to the planned long march like the date and from where different caravans would start their journey as well as a countrywide wheel-jam strike.
