The woes of footwear merchants have multiplied as government is not opening Letters of Credit (LCs), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The traders of wholesale chappal market have called upon the government to open the LCs.

Footwear Merchants’ Association General Secretary Hafiz Usman said that their imported articles have been rotting at the port for the last several months but since the government is not opening the LCs, they could not get their lot.

He said due to non-arrival of articles stuck at the port, the footwear prices are increasing. Besides this, the traders will have to pay heavy demurrage charges on the lot stuck there, he added.

He said the business is badly affected due to government’s reluctance to open the LCs.

He called upon the government to divert its attention from other affairs specifically to economy and take measures to overhaul the economic policies.
