Pilots of the Pakistan Army Aviation have rescued two foreign mountain climbers from Baltoro Glacier in Gilgit Baltistan.

According to a statement issued by the ISPR on Sunday, mountaineers Mr Donald Allen Bowie of the United States and Ms Lotta Henriikka Nakyva of Finland were picked up by the Pakistan Army pilots from Broad Peak, Baltoro Glacier.

The ISPR statement further said that these climbers were part of an international winter expedition attempting to summit Broad Peak but stranded en route due to sickness.

It may be mentioned here that the Pakistani Army pilots had carried out a number of rescue missions to rescue foreign climbers from the frozen peaks of Gilgit Baltistan in the recent past.

A few days ago, a special award ceremony was held at the Army Museum to confer medals on Pakistan Army Aviation pilots who rescued French mountaineer Miss Elisabeth Revol from Nanga Parbat in 2018.

Rear Admiral Didier Malterre, Commander of French Joint Force in Indian Ocean conferred France National Defence Bronze Medal to brave pilots of Army Aviation who took part in the daring rescue operation.

Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of General Staff (CGS) Pakistan Army, senior military officers and officers from Pakistan Army Aviation attended the ceremony.

Pakistan Army Aviation pilots had rescued the mountaineer on request of the French embassy.
