The government failed to bring relief to the people as the prices of 22 essential items kept going up in the first week of January.

Sugar price surge went unabated, although crushing started in the first week of January while pulse prices surged by up to Rs8 per kg.

An average increase of Rs6 and 6 paisa per kg of sugar was recorded in this week. The commodity cost reached Rs100 per kg in the federal capital and Rs95 per kg in Rawalpindi,

Gujranwala and Peshawar while in Multan Rs93 per kg and Lahore and Karachi Rs90.

Last month, Prime Minister Imran Khan took to Twitter to greet his team for bringing sugar price down from Rs102 per kg to Rs81 per kg.

“MashaAllah sugar is selling at a national average of Rs81 per kg vs. Rs102 per kg a month back.

“I want to congratulate my team for bringing the sugar price down through a multi-pronged strategy.”
