Minhaj-ul-Quran International (MQI) Patron-in-Chief and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri in a series of tweets on Thursday narrated the case journey of Model Town killing incident that happened in 2014 and said justice for the weak against the powerful is almost impossible in Pakistan.

Tahirul Qadri said, “In 2014, the Sharif government ordered the police to open fire on unarmed civilians resulting in 14 of our workers becoming martyred, and many others suffered life-changing injuries. This was the worst case of political victimisation shown live on TV channels.”

“The Sharifs impeded our every effort to report the crime they had committed. Consequently, we launched a justice movement in Islamabad’s unpopulated Red Zone, and it was only days after the COAS intervened that the FIR was registered,” he said.

“In 2015-16 we continued to protest in various cities because we wanted the Baqir Najfi report to be published as the Sharif government had withheld this. It was due to the LHC that the report saw the light of the day,” Tahirul Qadri said that. “The Sharifs attempted to produce a dubious JIT to discredit,” he further added.

Commenting about the Justice Baqir Najafi report, he said, “Baqir Najfi report and give a clean-chit to the perpetrators. When the CJ took notice of this, I personally appeared before the larger bench and presented our point of view.”

“After the formation of the JIT, the SC ordered that we should rely on the legal process instead of protesting. We honoured this, however, the JIT was suspended by the LHC, yet we still moved the court to restore it,” Minhaj-ul-Quran International leader said.

He said, “I am working with our lawyers to keep this case moving forward. However, justice for the weak against the powerful is almost next to impossible in Pakistan.”

Last year in September, Tahirul Qadri had announced his retirement from politics. “I am taking retirement from PAT chairmanship and politics citing health issues and now the focus is on academics and research work.”

Qadri has handed over all the power to the Supreme Council of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).
