PM renews resolve to protect farmers rights

Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated resolve to guard the farmers rights, 24NewsHD reported on Tuesday.

Although sugar prices surged in the past, growers of sugarcane could not even get the support price, he said while talking to a delegation of farmers that called on him in Islamabad.

He cited cartelisation as the reason for letting these criminals go on looting spree in the past. He said his 25-year struggle is against the corruption and corrupt rulers and he won't surrender to the mafia crushing the farmer's rights. he said he believed the country’s socio-economic progress was linked with enhanced development of agriculture and industry.

The visitors praised the premier for feeling strong concerns for them and his role in getting passed the Sugar Factories Control (Amendment) Act 2021 by the Punjab Assembly.

PM Imran said it was due to the government’s policies that except cotton, the country achieved record production of various crops including wheat, rice and sugarcane this year.

He assured the farmers that the government would take all measures for the development and promotion of agriculture sector including its modernization with the cooperation of China.

The PM said that the development of agriculture sector on modern lines has been made part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He further said that the government would work on the duty-free import of agricultural equipment and tools from China and benefit from their expertise to develop our livestock sector as well.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Minister for National Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam, Minster of State for Information Farrukh Habib, Special Assistants to PM Jamshed Cheema and Dr Shehbaz Gill were also present in the meeting with farmers’ representatives.
