PPP’s Qadir Mandokhel declared winner in NA-249 after vote recount

The staff of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday completed recount of votes in the NA-249 constituency in Karachi, three days after the vote recount process began. 

On completion of the vote recount, the ECP declared Abdul Qadir Khan Mandokhel of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) winner of the by-election in the Karachi constituency by 909 votes. He secured 15,473 votes after the recount. Earlier, he had secured 16, 156 votes. Mandokhel’s 500 votes were rejected by the ECP staff as invalid. 

On the other hand, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Miftah Ismail won 14,747 votes and remained runner up in the contest. Earlier, he had obtained 15,473 votes. At least 726 votes cast in favour of Miftah were declared invalid.
