Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar has said instead of political point-scoring, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) needs to focus on the completion of projects to develop Karachi under the Centre-Sindh accord.
“The people of Karachi aren’t keen to know who is contributing … they want us to deliver,” the federal minister told the media on Wednesday
“The people of Karachi will hurl shoes at both the PPP and the PTI if we continue press conferences against each other instead of initiating practical work," he said and expressed annoyance at political credit-earning.
About PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto's press conference, the minister stressed that the PPP did not have the will to initiate work for the development of the city.
"If you do not have the will to work, it will not be done through just press conferences. Work from our side has started as I called a meeting immediately after the agreement in which a week-long deadline was set to start implementing the plan,” Asad said.
He said he wrote a letter to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for handing over the Greater Karachi Water Supply Project (K-IV) project to the Centre as per the provincial government’s desire.
The minister said the Centre has already initiated the process for implementation of the KTP. and the K-IV, Karachi Circular Railways (KCR), Greenline and S3 were old projects but groundwork on those projects never started.
