Singers’ current crop successfully carries legacy to make nation proud

Entertainment is one of the fields that spread universally and can make you an international name too. 

Many celebrities and other Pakistani entertainers have crossed borders and made the country proud by representing home in an unknown environment. Pakistan has number of big names in the past including Noor Jehan, Mehdi Hasan, Ghulam Ali, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Abida Parveen and many more who brought recognition for the country around the globe for their mastery in the art of music and singing.

The current crop of Pakistani singers is also successfully carrying these legend’s legacy. From Atif Aslam to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan here are the Pakistani Entertainers who are making the country proud globally.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan 

Fostered musically by his uncle, Legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, from the tender age of 7, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a modern torch-bearer of the genre of Qawwali. 

Having established the delicate balance of rich musical heritage and contemporary popular music, Rahat has honed and developed a distinctive sound for himself. 

Having proved his inborn talent time and again in Hollywood, Bollywood and his sold-out shows across the world, he has so far contributed to countless projects and recorded hundreds of tracks in a multitude of genres.

Atif Aslam 

Famed Pakistani singer Atif Aslam has given us all a plethora of musical masterpieces throughout his career, a lot which have been produced on Coke Studio. His melodious songs, captured not only the hearts of those in Pakistan but fans in India and across the oceans all come together to appreciate his masterpieces.

Ali Zafar

The painter-actor-model turned singer-songwriter: Ali Zafar is an all rounder, entertaining young and old, across the world since 2003. 

Ever since his first single "Channo" which sold half a million copies in just the first week – he has toured across the world, starred in some Bollywood films, bagged awards for everything he’s contributed to – with no real plans of slowing down yet.

With his dynamic vocals and dreamy vintage tone, the Rockstar has a huge fan following not only in Pakistan but all over the world.

Ali Sethi

Ali Sethi began his musical career during his stint at Harvard, while he was studying to earn the degree in South Asian Studies. 

In finding comfort in listening to semi-classical folk and traditional music from Pakistan, he launched himself as a singer by performing the classic, ‘Aaj Jaanay Ki Zidd Na Karo’ for the first time in 2005 for an audience at Harvard.

Realizing his passion for the genre, and to further add to his knowledge of classical nuances, he started formal training with Ustad Naseeruddin Saami since 2008. Sethi’s original track, ‘Dil Jalanay Ki Baat’ was featured in Mira Nair’s film, Reluctant Fundamentalist in 2013.  Sethi has grabbed a huge fan following across the border.

Shafqat Amanat Ali 

He comes from the seventh generation of the Patiala Gharana, started singing at the age of four and has been fondly named ‘Rock Star Ustad’ by music composer Salim Merchant. Still, singer Shafqat Amanat Ali insists that he has a lot to do in life and make a lot of dreams come true.

After Shafqat started performing India, he caught the attention of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and was later offered to sing Mitwa in Karan Johar’s movie Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. With several Bollywood chart-topping hits in the bag, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan released a multitude of singles and albums and has an award-winning repertoire of work.
