Making it clear that it will not allow the PTI to either hold a rally or a protest demonstration today on the first anniversary of the May 9 tragedy, the Islamabad Police have sealed all the routes leading to the city’s Red Zone, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

The police have said that no person will be allowed inside the zone today and that those taking the law into their own hands will be dealt with an iron hand.

On the other hand, sources have told 24News that the PTI plans to hold protest demonstrations in all three constituencies of the federal capital at 4:00 PM today.

They have disclosed that the police raided the party’s Islamabad President Amir Mughal’s home last night.

Two days ago, on Tuesday, the PTI had announced a nationwide protest on May 9 after a key huddle by the party members.

Addressing the parliamentary party meeting at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, the party's General Secretary and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub said that the party’s protest would be peaceful.

The meeting was attended by members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, senators, and party leaders from across the country.

Ayub said that after a long time, the PTI party meeting is being held here again. He said that the party leaders and workers had endured lots of hardships to reach this point.

Quoting the former prime minister and ex-PTI chairman Imran Khan, Ayub said that he had urged the workers not to lose their heart until the last ball.

Thousands of people took to the streets on May 9, 2023 immediately after they learnt about the arrest of their leader Imran Khan by the Rangers personnel.

They resorted to vandalism and set several government and military buildings on fire to register their protest.
