PAA advises foreign airlines to carry sufficient fuel for return journey

Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has issued a new directive requiring foreign airlines to carry sufficient fuel for return journeys till April 15, 2026, rather than relying on refuelling within the country, reported 24News HD TV Channel on Wednesday. 

The move was communicated through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) and has already begun affecting flight operations.

The PAA said the advisory is a precautionary measure amid concerns over jet fuel availability, as Islamabad steps up conservation efforts linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis. 

The NOTAM, issued on March 13, 2026, advised foreign carriers to “carry max fuel from abroad and minimise uplift of Jet A-1 fuel from Pakistan,” referring to aviation-grade fuel used in commercial aircraft.

Reports indicate that at least one flight from Karachi to Doha was diverted to Muscat for refuelling, while some airlines carrying extra fuel are facing weight limitations, forcing the offloading of passenger baggage and cargo to meet safety standards.

An official familiar with the directive, speaking on condition of anonymity, said local airlines would continue receiving fuel according to operational requirements, while foreign carriers are urged to reduce reliance on domestic supplies.

The move comes amid wider disruptions to global fuel supply chains following tensions in the region.
