Son dies, father survived as glacier burst wreaks havoc in Gilgit

A man and his son fell into a ravine after a glacier burst in Gilgit which wreaked havoc I several areas, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

The tragic incident took place in Diamer area of Gilgit-Baltistan. Soon after the incident, residents of the area and the rescue team reached the spot and saved the father, but his son could not make it.

Due to gushing flood waves entire area of Khanbari was destroyed. A spokesman of the Gilgit-Baltistan government Faizullah Faraq, said that all water channels and crops were destroyed in the area.

He said that he invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to visit Gilgit-Baltistan and an emergency was imposed in the province.

Faizullah Faraq said that the federal government must take measures to provide timely help to flood-affected people of Gilgit and Baltistan. 

He expressed the hope that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Gilgit-Baltistan and address the grievances of the flood-affected.

He said that the search of missing tourists in Babusar is underway.
