US woman who followed her lover to Karachi admitted to psychiatry ward

The American woman, Onijah Andrew Robinson, who had come to Karachi in search of her teenage lover, was admitted to the city’s Jinnah Hospital’s Psychiatry Department on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.   

Sources told 24News TV channel that the woman’s mental condition was being examined after which the treatment of her illness would be suggested. 

On Friday, 24News TV channel, while quoting the woman’s son, had reported that his mother was mentally ill and had no ability to think and understand. 

In a video statement, Onijah’s son said he had learnt form media that his mother was in Pakistan.

He added his mother went to Pakistan to meet someone and his family and she claimed to return home within two weeks after meeting someone and his family. 

He said his mother was not ready to come back despite the fact that he and his sister has arranged return ticket for her.

The woman has been in Karachi since October 11 last year to marry a 19-year-old young man and is refusing to go back to America. 

A bizarre love story had unfolded in Karachi on Thursday, when a mother of two from the United States, identified as Onijah Andrew Robinson, spent an entire night outside her lover’s home in protest after he refused to acknowledge their alleged marriage.

The 19-year-old Karachi man, Ahmad Memon, allegedly met Onijah on social media and promised to marry her. 

Believing in his commitment, she left her husband, abandoned her children, and travelled to Pakistan on October 11 to be with him.

However, Ahmed’s family strongly opposed the marriage, leaving the American woman stranded in Karachi for months as her return ticket had already expired.
