SC issues detailed opinion on presidential reference regarding Bhutto's hanging
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar of the Supreme Court has issued his detailed opinion on the presidential reference regarding the hanging of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar wrote in his opinion that decisions made in haste, anger or prejudice are not only against the law of the land but also against Islamic principles.
Justice Mazhar said that Bhutto’s trial did not meet the standards of fair trial under Articles 4 and 9 of the Constitution. According to Justice Mazhar, the requirements of transparency and legal procedure were not met in the trial against Bhutto and awarding death sentence on the mere statement of an approver was against the basic principles of law and justice.
The record proves that the personal bias and preconceived ideas of the judges affected the basis of a fair decision.
