Emergency declared in Rawalpindi after heavy rain lashes twin cities Heavy monsoon rain in and around the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday inundated low-lying areas besides leading to a considerable rise in water levels in drains, prompting the WASA Rawalpindi to declare rain emergency in the city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.  

Torrential rains were also reported from Bagh, other parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Narowal in Punjab and other parts of Punjab. 

The rain resulted in the suspension of the power supply to different localities of the garrison city.

The water level at Katarian in Nullah Lai rose to 15 feet, while at Gawalmandi to 14 feet.

The rainwater was being drained out from roads till last reports came in. 

Overall, 41 millimeters of rain was recorded in the twin cities.

Rain recorded in different localities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad was as under: Saidpur 30 millimeters, Golra 38 millimeters, Bokra 25 millimeters, PMD 78 millimeters, Shamsabad 68 millimeters, Kutchehry 68 millimeters, and Pir Wadhai 54 millimeters.

Thundershowers reported from Narowal

Narowal was completely drenched following heavy rain that lasted the city and its outskirts for an hour.  

One to two feet of water was reported from Kutchehry Road, Karbala Road and Zafarwal Road, making it difficult for the people to pass through. 

More rain forecast

On the other hand, the Met Office forecast more rain, accompanied by strong winds, for Islamabad, Punjab, upper KP and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

It said that it might rain cats and dogs at a few places. 

It predicted hot and humid weather for other parts of the country.
