Punjab enforces ban on temporary mechanical rides during Eid holidays 

In a major step towards public safety, the Punjab government has banned all temporary mechanical swings during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha holidays, according to a directive issued by the Punjab Home Department.

The 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday that the decision aims to prevent accidents and protect lives, especially during the festive season when large numbers of families and children visit funfairs and amusement parks. 

The ban applies specifically to mechanical rides that are temporarily installed and often do not meet security and safety protocols, particularly regarding overloading risks.

However, the government has clarified that mechanical swings that are permanently installed in amusement parks are exempt from this ban, provided they strictly comply with safety standards.

To ensure compliance, the Home Department has mandated that fitness certificates for all permanent mechanical rides must be obtained from the respective Deputy Commissioners across Punjab. 

District administrations are tasked with verifying the safety standards of each ride and ensuring they are fit for public use.

Deputy Commissioners have also been directed to enforce this order strictly and ensure no temporary mechanical rides are operational during the Eid holidays.

The Home Department stressed that such temporary rides are often erected without proper engineering checks, posing significant threats to human life during peak usage times.
