KP weather alert: Strong winds, thunderstorms and possible flooding forecast across province

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has forecast intermittent rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms across most districts of the province from tomorrow until June 5.

According to a PDMA alert issued to all district administrations, widespread rain accompanied by windstorms and thunderstorms is expected during this period, with some areas also likely to experience hailstorms.

The authority stated that rain and hail are expected in upper districts including Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.

In addition, rain and windstorms are likely in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat, Karak, Orakzai, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Tank.

PDMA warned that landslides may occur in hilly areas due to persistent rainfall, while rivers and streams in several regions may overflow. Flash flooding is also expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Abbottabad, and Kohistan.

Urban flooding risks have been highlighted for low-lying areas of Peshawar, Mardan, and Nowshera.

District administrations have been directed to take precautionary measures, activate rescue teams, and ensure the availability of necessary resources to respond to any emergency situation.

Authorities have also been instructed to keep major highways open, maintain traffic flow, and arrange alternative routes where necessary. Concerned departments have been ordered to immediately clear drainage systems to reduce the risk of urban flooding.

PDMA officials urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
