Firefighting continues as Karachi’s Moach Goth blaze enters third day

As many as five vehicles of the fire brigade, one water browser, and four fire tenders of Rescue 1122 are battling the flames raging in a godown of tyres near Moach Goth, Karachi for the last three days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

Rescue officials said that 90 per cent of the fire had been doused and soon it would be completely extinguished.

They further said that there was an acute shortage of water.

According to officials, the blaze, which began on Thursday afternoon, was classified as a third-degree fire due to its intensity and the presence of highly flammable materials, including rubber, oil, and carbon.

More than 10 fire tenders, later increased to thirteen, from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Rescue 1122 participated in the extensive operation.

Officials said the presence of combustible materials caused the flames to spread rapidly, while unpaved access routes and dense vegetation around the warehouse hampered firefighting efforts.

Although no loss of life occurred, the fire destroyed goods worth millions of rupees, with approximately 80 per cent of the warehouse’s stock reduced to ashes.

Rescue teams managed to save about 20% of the stored materials.

The thick, black smoke billowing from the burning tyres caused significant environmental pollution, raising concerns among nearby residents.

Authorities said a cooling process was underway and an investigation would be launched to determine the cause of the fire.
