Earthquake jolts Punjab, KP and GB cities

A mild-to-strong earthquake was felt in various cities of Pakistan in the wee hours of Saturday, with the tremors measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The Pakistan Meteorological Department's National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) in Islamabad said the tremors were recorded at 2:03am and the earthquake was measured 5.5 on the Richter scale.  

However, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the earthquake struck the Hindukush region in Afghanistan shortly after 2am (PST) at a depth of 124 kilometres, 121km east of Baghlān in Afghanistan. 

The tremors were felt in various parts of Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Murree, Sargodha, Wah Cantt, Kasur in Punjab. 

In KP, the quake was felt in Peshawar, Swat and its surrounding areas, Nowshera, Dir, Shangla, Charsadda, Malakand, Mardan, Haripur, Hangu and Balakot.

Moreover, the tremors were also felt in Ghizer and many other districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Beyond Pakistan, social media users in India, India-held Kashmir and Afghanistan also reported to have felt strong tremors.
