Punjab IG Dr Usman likely to be transferred, given key role at federal level
Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Dr Usman Anwar is likely to be transferred from his current position, with indications that the federal government has sought his services for an important role.
Sources say Dr Usman may be appointed the home secretary, as discussions continue regarding his new assignment at the federal level. He has been serving as IG in Punjab for the past three years.
In anticipation of the possible move, the name of the Lahore CCPO has emerged as a strong candidate for the post of the Punjab Police IG. Additionally, Wasim Sial’s name is under consideration for the top police slot.
Dr Usman is regarded as an experienced officer with an extensive background in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which is believed to be a key factor in the federal government’s interest in his services.
An official notification regarding the transfer and new appointments is expected after formal approval.
