In an apparent case of ‘honour killing, two brothers murdered their sister and her husband just because the couple tied the knot on their own free will, but the love marriage was not accepted by the accused, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The police in Nawabshah have arrested both the brothers Asghar Ali and Aslam and also seized the murder weapon. The brothers who were not happy with their sister’s choice, killed both Sajida and her husband Sikandar two years after their love marriage.

Police have started further investigation in the case in which both brothers accepted their crime, the TV channel reported. The incident occurred in Bandhi area which is 41 kilometres from Nawabshah.

Contracting marriage according to their own will is still the biggest problem for many in our society, as family members forced a couple to move a local court in Karachi amid the threats they are facing.

Last Thursday, Saqib and Kulsoom – residents of North Nazimabad in Karachi – filed an application just days after they opted for court marriage against the wishes of the girl’s family.

According to Saqib who is the applicant, Kulsoom’s family members threatened to kill them. Now her cousins are pressuring his family to hand over both of them to the in-laws.

A fortnight ago, a girl told a court in Karachi that her husband was murdered by her father and brother and now her life was also in danger.

While recording her statement in a court in Malir, Umm-e-Habiba said her father and brother had murdered her husband and now they both were out on bail and they will also kill her.

She told the court that she married Furqan because of love but after the marriage, her family started to threaten her husband. Umm-e-Habiba further claimed that her father and brother were involved in Furqan's murder.
