IMF Board to take up Pakistan loan issue on Jan 11

The first review of the short-term loan programme of $3 billion will be made at the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Executive Board meeting on Pakistan scheduled to be held on January 11, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the IMF’s calendar available on its website, the next board meetings are scheduled for January 8, 10 and 11. The global money lender’s Board will discuss Pakistan on January 11, 2024.

They further said that the Board, at the meeting, will also discuss the release of second installment of its loan for Pakistan.

If approved, Pakistan would get $700 million from the Fund, they disclosed.   

The current IMF programme of $ 3 billion is scheduled to end in the second week of April 2024, with around $1.8 billion remaining undisbursed.

The Fund had released $1.2 billion as the first tranche in July, 2023.
