Ambreen Jan selected as Pemra chairperson

Ambreen Jan, former information secretary, has been selected on Friday as the chairperson of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), as the first female head of the electronic media regulator. 

The media regulator Pemra was currently headed by Mohammad Saleem Baig. A meeting of a parliamentary committee, chaired by Shehbaz Babar, selected Ambreen Jan after it was convened to appoint the next head of the media regulatory authority. 

Following the committee’s unanimous approval, Jan’s name was forwarded to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final confirmation. 

Ambreen Jan has also previously served as the managing director of the state broadcaster PTV.

She was shortlisted for the post among others including Brigadier (r) Anwar Ahmed, Mateen Haider, Irfan Ashraf and Hamid Khan.
