Furqan Bhatt faces ban for displaying Palestinian flag on helmet
Cricketer Furqan Bhatt from Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir has been barred from playing in upcoming league matches and is facing police questioning after displaying a Palestinian flag on his helmet during a local cricket match, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
The incident came to light when videos and photographs of Bhatt’s helmet went viral on social media during a Jammu & Kashmir Champions League match.
Following the online circulation, Jammu police summoned the player and tournament organizers for clarification.
Authorities stated that they are investigating the intent behind the act and whether it had any political motivation.
Meanwhile, the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has distanced itself from the matter, clarifying that the Champions League is not an official or sanctioned tournament and that Furqan Bhatt has no formal affiliation with the association.
The tournament administration has meanwhile suspended Bhatt from participating in future matches, a decision that has sparked mixed reactions on social media.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
