Sections of M4 & M5 motorways closed due to dense fog

The Motorway Police Central Region on Friday closed the M4 Motorway section from Khanewal to Multan due to dense fog, citing safety concerns for road users.

Later, M4 Motorway was also closed from Faisalabad to Multan and Abdul Hakeem to Sher Shah. Moreover, M5 Motorway was closed from Multan to Zahir Pir.

According to Syed Imran Ahmed, spokesperson for the Motorway Police Central Region, the decision to close the motorways was taken to protect the lives of the public, as poor visibility caused by fog significantly increases the risk of accidents. He warned that lane violations during foggy conditions can lead to serious and dangerous incidents.

The Motorway Police advised road users to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid unnecessary travel during fog. Drivers were urged to plan their journeys during safer hours, preferably between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, when visibility conditions generally improve.

Motorists have also been instructed to use fog lights, avoid overspeeding, and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead to prevent collisions. The spokesperson emphasized that caution and patience are essential while driving in foggy weather.

For guidance, updates or emergency assistance, road users have been advised to contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130.

The Motorway Police will continue to monitor weather conditions and reopen the affected section once visibility improves and travel is deemed safe.
