JI announces sit-in against inflation, taxes, electricity prices in Islamabad on July 12

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman Monday announced a protest sit-in against inflation, heavy taxes and electricity prices in Islamabad on July 12.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the JI chief held a press conference at the party headquarters Mansoora in Lahore and said the government will be forced to abolish oppressive taxes.

He criticized the government for burdening people with taxes and announced that the sit-in would demand reductions in inflation, taxes and electricity prices immediately.

The JI chief highlighted that the salaried class is suffering under inflation while the government shows no remorse for the highly oppressive budget.

Hafiz Naeem accused the government of not taxing landlords while imposing heavy financial burdens on the poor classes.

JI Chief Hafiz Naeem condemned the ruling class for being oppressive and said people are now forced to sell their essential items and women's jewelry due to high utility bills.

Strongly criticizing the recent hike in petrol and gas prices, the JI chief predicted further increases in the rates.

According to Rehman, taxes on electricity bills and levies on petrol are only filling the pockets of the oppressors while the Prime Minister proudly admits that the budget was made under IMF directives.

He said the government has increased privileges for the ruling class and senior bureaucrats in the budget who already enjoying free electricity and petrol while fixed taxes on electricity have been imposed on the poor classes in the country.

The JI chief also criticized the imposition of taxes on stents for heart patients.

He also said a nationwide strike in response to the government's actions was also being considered by his party.
