Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid has said that since the National Assembly and the federal cabinet have been dissolved, Imran Khan will continue to hold the office of Prime Minister for the next 15 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a presser in Islamabad on Sunday in an attempt to clear some air after the murky events of the day, Rashid said that after a thorough deliberation, the premier had wisely chosen the path to hold fresh elections in the country.
He said that he continued to give hints to the people and establishment that elections were the only solution. But they continued to taunt us with ‘elected’ and ‘selected’ slurs, he added.
The Awami Muslim League leader said that in his city even an election campaign was going on for the last 3-4 days.
In the backdrop of changed scenario, he mocked at opposition leaders’ preparations saying the official dresses (Achkan) they made in anticipation had been changed into underpants.
He said a caretaker government would soon take place and transparent elections would be held.
He said that after Opposition’s no-trust move, Imran had become more popular.
As the Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice on the deputy speaker’s ruling regarding dismissal of joint opposition’s no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan terming it illegal under Article 5 of the Constitution, the former interior minister said that “we will accept whatever decision the apex court will take in this regard.”
He again told the media that he had earlier advised the premier to impose emergency in the country which he rejected. He said he even wished that the PM would also dissolve provincial assemblies as well.
He said people in Pakistan were rejoicing over Imran’s decision but today India must be very sad as Imran didn’t go.
