Groom defrauded of Rs200,000, returns without bride from Chiniot
A wedding procession from Jhang returned home in shock and humiliation after the groom was allegedly defrauded of Rs200,000 and denied his bride in Chiniot, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.
According to details, 21-year-old Sajjad, a resident of Jhang, was engaged to 18-year-old Musarrat from Lalian, Chiniot.
At the time of engagement, Musarrat’s family reportedly took Rs70,000, arguing that they were financially weak and that the marriage was being arranged outside their clan.
As the wedding day approached, the bride’s family allegedly demanded an additional Rs130,000 for Musarrat’s departure.
On the day of the event, Sajjad said he was told to bring the baraat to Chiniot instead of Lalian.
However, upon arrival, the family allegedly collected the remaining money and then produced a girl who was known in the area for begging, claiming she was the bride.
When Sajjad and his relatives objected, Musarrat’s parents and all accompanying individuals reportedly fled the scene.
Left stunned and empty-handed, the groom and his relatives returned to Jhang and lodged a formal complaint at the local police station.
The police have registered a case and started investigations.
