Three police officials including an officer were martyred when a bomb exploded near the vehicle in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The explosion took place in Penala area and heavy contingents of police were rushed to the site.Police informed media men that the police party was targeted with and IED explosion in which three policemen including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) were martyred.

After mobile van attack, DI Khan police conducted search operation in the area  and apprehended the terrorists. The heavy firing exchange took place between the police and the terrorists a long time. In the exchange of fire, 2 terrorists of Fitna al-Khawarij were killed while 2 other terrorists were also injured. 

Ealier, several SHOs from different DI Khan police stations also arrived at the blast site.

An emergency was declared in DHQ Hospital in DI Khan.The martyred policemen were identified as ASI Gul Alam, Constable Rafiq and driver Sakhi Jan. Another constable remained unhurt in the bomb explosion. 

It may be mentioned here that on Tuesday North Waziristan District assistant Commissioner, his two security guards and a passerby were martyred in a gun attack by terrorists in Bannu.

Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali Khan’s convoy was hit by a barrage of bullets while travelling on Bannu-Miranshah Road.

The wounded were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu for medical treatment. After getting information about the attack, a heavy contingent of police reached the crime scene.

President, PM condemn DI Khan attack

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have expressed grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of security personnel in a terrorist attack on a police van in Dera Ismail Khan.

In a statement, President Asif Zardari paid tributes to the martyrs and prayed for the recovery of those injured in the incident.

The President commended the continuous sacrifices and determination of security institutions and police in fight against terrorism. He said terrorists can never succeed in front of the resolve of the nation, police and security forces.

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a police mobile in Dera Ismail Khan. In his statement, he expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of three police personnel in the attack. The Prime Minister prayed for the elevation of the martyrs' ranks and offered condolences to their families. 

Shehbaz Sharif directed that the injured personnel be provided with the best possible medical facilities.The Prime Minister directed that those responsible for the incident be identified and brought to justice.He paid tribute to the great sacrifices made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in the war against terrorism. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the unwavering commitment to root out the menace of terrorism.
