Faiz Hameed's brother Najaf challenges bail cancellation in IHC

Najaf Hameed, brother of former director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Faiz Hameed, has challenged the Special Judge Central's decision of cancelling his bail in a fraud case in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Special Judge Central had accepted the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) application seeking cancellation of Najaf Hameed’s bail in the fraud case on January 24.

In his petition before the Islamabad High Court, Najaf Hameed pleaded that he was a law-abiding citizen but was being dragged into a case with mala fide intentions.

He argued that the order cancelling his bail could not be sustained in the eyes of the law and should therefore be declared null and void. The petitioner requested the court to restore his pre-arrest bail.

In the petition, the state, the Federal Investigation Agency, and the complainant have been named as respondents by the petitioner, Najaf Hameed.

Earlier, on January 26, a Special Central Court in Islamabad cancelled Najaf Hameed’s bail in the fraud case after accepting an application filed by the FIA.

The verdict was delivered by FIA Special Judge Central Shah Rukh Arjumand, who pronounced the reserved judgment in favour of the prosecution.

However, Najaf Hameed could not be taken into custody, as he was not present in court at the time the decision was announced.

Previously, the same court had granted him bail on the basis of a compromise reached between the complainant and the accused.

Subsequently, the FIA approached the court, arguing that bail granted on reconciliation grounds should be withdrawn, prompting the court to re-examine the matter.

Earlier, on January 21, 2026, the special court had taken up the FIA’s application seeking cancellation of Najaf Hameed’s bail in the fraud case. The hearing was presided over by Special Judge Central Shah Rukh Arjumand.

During that hearing, an assisting counsel appeared on behalf of Najaf Hameed and requested time to present arguments, stating that senior counsel would submit detailed pleadings.

Accepting the request, the court adjourned the hearing until February 24 and directed that a copy of the bail cancellation application be provided to the defence team.

It is pertinent to note that Najaf Hameed’s bail had been approved earlier by the same court following a compromise between the complainant and the accused.

Just three days earlier, on January 18, the FIA Special Judge Central Court Islamabad had granted him bail in the fraud case through a written order confirming reconciliation between the parties.

Before securing bail from the special court, Najaf Hameed had also obtained interim bail from a local court in Islamabad. He is facing allegations of fraud and other charges in a case registered by the FIA.
