March 3, 2023 05:30 PM

Former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry Friday filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging detention orders of the party leaders and workers who had been arrested during ‘jail bharo’ movement, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The petition demanded release of the detained leaders and workers. The Punjab government, home secretary, inspector general of police (IGP) and inspector general of prisons were made respondents in the petition.

“The PTI leaders and workers who surrendered to the police during ‘jail bharo’ movement were detained,” it was stated in the petition.

“The detention orders of 320 PTI leaders and workers were issued illegally. As per the law, the deputy commissioners do not have any authority to issue detention orders,” the petition added.

“According to the decision of the Supreme Court, a government officer is not the government,” it stated.

The petition demanded that the court declared the detention orders of the detained PTI leaders and workers illegal.

It also demanded that the court issue orders for the immediate release of the detained PTI leaders and workers.
