Zahoor and Akhtri groups enmity in Gujrat: Death toll rises to 7

The death toll in a violent firing incident between the Zahoor group and the Akhtari group over a long-standing enmity has risen to seven in Punjab’s Gujrat district, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Monday.

Yesterday, six people were shot dead when armed suspects of the Zahoor Group targeted their rivals of the Akhtari Group in a Vigo Dala near Miana Chakbargaran.

Gujrat police confirmed that six of the deceased belonged to the Akhtari Group, while one person from the opposing party was also killed in a crossfire.

The slain individuals were identified as Zahid Nazim (30), Mubashir (26), Zanir (30), Javed Iqbal (33), Rukhsar (35), and an unidentified youth (26).

In the ensuing retaliatory gunfight, the Zahoor group’s ringleader was also killed on the spot.

According to initial reports, motorcycle-borne assailants from the Zahoor group ambushed the Akhtari group’s vehicle, opening indiscriminate fire.

Five victims of the Akhtari group hailed from Dinga Khurd, while one belonged to Chadanwala.

Taking swift action, IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has sought a report from RPO Gujranwala and ordered the immediate arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, DPO Gujrat Mustansar Bajwa has launched a crackdown against the accused, with police conducting raids since last night.

Police sources revealed that the Zahoor group had previously killed members of the Akhtari group over past disputes. The ages of the murdered individuals range between 25 and 35 years.

Following the gruesome killings, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also taken notice and demanded a detailed report from IG Punjab Police.
