Two workers killed as construction lift falls in Lahore’s Liberty area

Two labourers were killed after a lift collapsed at an under-construction commercial building in the Liberty area of Lahore, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday. 

According to rescue officials, the incident occurred at a private plaza project where the lift suddenly fell while workers were present inside.

The victims plunged from a significant height and died at the scene due to severe injuries.

Initial findings suggested the workers were engaged in routine duties when the lift malfunctioned. Authorities suspect a technical fault caused the sudden collapse, though the exact nature of the mechanical failure has yet to be confirmed.

Police have launched an investigation to determine responsibility and assess whether safety protocols were in place and properly followed. 

Rescue teams shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken notice of the incident and ordered a thorough investigation.

She directed authorities to take strict action against those found responsible and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased workers.
