Death toll in Quetta rally blast rises to 14

The death toll in the deadly explosion at a political rally in Quetta rose to 14 on Wednesday as two more injured participants breathed their last during the night, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Dozens of people were wounded in the explosion, which took place in the parking lot of Shahwani Stadium located on Sariab Road in the provincial capital of Balochistan, where hundreds of members of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) had gathered.

At least seven of the 30 wounded were in critical condition, officials said.

Immediately after the explosion, a state of emergency was declared at the hospitals in Quetta and the off-duty paramedical staff was called back to office.

Sources in the police expressed the suspicion that the explosion was carried out by a suicide-bomber. They said that the evidence collected from the blast site will undergo forensic examination.

BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal had just finished speaking at the Quetta rally and was leaving the venue when the blast occurred. He said he was "safe" in a post on social media.

PkMAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, who is currently part of the new alliance called the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution, was also present at the political rally when the explosion took place.

National Party leader Mir Kabir also survived the explosion, but his bodyguard was wounded in the incident and bulletproof vehicle was damaged.

The Balochistan government has ordered an immediate probe into Shahwani Stadium blast, said the Home Department soon after the incident. 

CM orders shifting of seriously injured patients to Karachi

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has ordered use of provincial government’s aerial services for shifting seriously injured patients to Karachi for treatment.

CM directed that if the doctors suggest to rush the seriously injured to Karachi then government’s aircraft should be used.

The chief minister vowed to ensure provision best medical facilities for the treatment of the wounded.

PkMAP, lawyers to observe black day

PkMAP and lawyers organisations have announced to observe mourning and black day against the deadly explosion at the political rally.

Black flags will be hoisted at their offices and party workers will wear black armbands.

Mohsin Naqvi condemns

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has strongly condemned the blast and expressed grief over the loss of precious human lives. He sent his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded. He said that terrorists and their agents from Fitna al-Hindustan were hatching a heinous conspiracy to create instability in the country by targeting innocent people. With the support of the nation, he said, nefarious designs of the Indian-sponsored terrorists would be foiled.
