Aran Murphy bears striking resemblance to Oscar-winning dad

Hollywood has seen a surge of nepo-babies making waves in recent years, and the trend continues as another star kid takes centre stage.

Aran Murphy, 17, son of Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy, was spotted filming scenes alongside Dominic West for HBO’s upcoming series War.

The series, which follows two rival law firms embroiled in a high-profile and public divorce, also stars Sienna Miller and Celia Imrie. Dominic West, 56, was seen putting on a serious display as he shot scenes with the teen, who bore a striking resemblance to his father in his younger days.

While details of Aran’s role remain under wraps, the young actor has already appeared in the Irish-British film Lola and is set to star in Taika Waititi’s upcoming film Klara and the Sun, slated for release next year.

Aran is Cillian’s younger son, sharing an older brother, Malachy, 20, with his wife, Yvonne McGuinness, whom he met in 1996 and married in 2004. Despite having an acclaimed father, Cillian has emphasized that Aran’s achievements are based on talent, not connections. Speaking to The Telegraph, he said: “There’s no way any kid will get by on nepotism alone.

Everyone in this business gets found out unless they’re good, and he’s a good little actor. But we’re not putting him under any pressure. If he decides to become a musician or a poet or a farmer or a chef, that’s up to him.”

The family relocated from London back to Ireland in 2015, partly to ensure their children maintained Irish accents and a sense of cultural identity. Cillian told Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast: “We wanted the kids to be Irish. They were sort of at that age where they had very posh English accents, and I wasn’t appreciating that too much! We only came back to Dublin in 2015 after 14 years in London.”

Known for keeping his family life private, Cillian rose to international fame as Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders and won an Oscar for his role in 2023’s Oppenheimer. Aran has clearly inherited his father’s striking looks and talent, promising an exciting future in acting.

Filming for War continues on the streets of London, with fans eagerly awaiting the series’ debut, where they’ll get a first full look at Aran stepping into the spotlight alongside seasoned stars.
