Charli XCX horror film teaser pulled from youtube over content violation

A teaser trailer for an upcoming horror film starring pop star Charli XCX has been removed from YouTube and Facebook after reportedly violating the platforms’ policies on violent and graphic material.

The film, Faces of Death, is a remake of the controversial 1978 cult classic of the same name and is scheduled for release on April 10.

The teaser trailer was released last week but was taken down within days.

According to horror-focused outlet Bloody Disgusting, the platforms removed the video for breaching YouTube’s terms of service related to violent or disturbing content.

The short teaser reportedly included intense and unsettling scenes depicting deaths in various scenarios. While no official statement has been issued by YouTube or the film’s distributors, the removal has sparked discussion among horror fans due to the legacy of the original film.

The original Faces of Death, released in 1978, was presented as a documentary-style film showing real-life deaths. Although it was later revealed that many scenes were staged, the film gained notoriety for blending authentic footage with reenactments.

It was banned in several countries, including the UK, Australia, and Germany, and became infamous during the 1980s through underground VHS circulation.

The upcoming remake takes a different narrative approach. It follows a female content moderator working for a video-sharing platform, whose job is to filter out violent and offensive material.

While dealing with her own traumatic past, she comes across a group that appears to be recreating scenes similar to those from the original Faces of Death, forcing her to question whether the incidents are real or staged.

Alongside Charli XCX, the film also stars Euphoria actress Barbie Ferreira and Stranger Things actor Dacre Montgomery, giving the project added mainstream attention.

Charli XCX, 33, has recently expanded her career beyond music into film and acting. Following the commercial success of her album Brat, she has appeared in the mockumentary The Moment and is set to feature in director Gregg Araki’s upcoming project I Want Your Sex.

She has also contributed to film soundtracks, including a recent adaptation of Wuthering Heights. The removal of the teaser has not affected the film’s scheduled release so far. However, it highlights ongoing debates around content moderation on digital platforms and the challenges filmmakers face when promoting horror projects that push boundaries.
