Even after the Greece boat tragedy, which claimed the lives of more than 300 Pakistanis, illegal human trafficking from Pakistan is yet to see a decline as Libyan police arrested over 300 illegal immigrants including 190 Pakistanis who were to cross into Italy by boat, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
It was learnt that more youths from Pakistan reached Libya on the promise [by agents] of entry into Italy.
Libyan police raided a hiding place of illegal immigrants in Tobruk and arrested over 300 of them including 190 Pakistanis.
There were also children among those who had been arrested, the Libyan border security forces said.
All those who were detained have been shifted to prison after legal proceedings. They were to illegally cross into Italy by boat, the Libyan border security forces added.
Last month, an Italy-bound fishing trawler reportedly carrying at least 800 people — including approximately 350 Pakistanis — capsized off Greece.
Investigations into the boat disaster pointed finger at the Greek maritime authorities for acting late to extend any kind of help to the people on board the sinking vessel.
The incident led to a day of mourning along with the launch of a nationwide crackdown on human smugglers with many subsequently arrested back in Pakistan.
