Rs104billion proposed for Power Division development projects in Budget 2025-26

The federal government is proposing a Rs 104 billion allocation for development projects under the Power Division in the upcoming Budget 2025–26, according to budget recommendation documents reviewed by this correspondent.

The proposal includes Rs 15.97 billion earmarked for the power transmission project from the Dasu Hydropower Project, one of the country’s major ongoing energy initiatives.

Another Rs 11.61 billion has been recommended for the power supply project to the Allama Iqbal Industrial Zone in Faisalabad, aimed at energizing one of Pakistan's major economic zones.

In addition, the government is planning to allocate Rs 5 billion for the construction of the Islamabad West Grid Station, while Rs 2 billion has been proposed for transmission infrastructure from the Mohmand Dam, a key multipurpose hydropower project.

A further Rs 4 billion has been recommended for the improvement of the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) system, which is critical to strengthening Pakistan’s national grid and reducing transmission losses.

Other notable proposals include Rs 5 billion for new transmission lines in Dharki, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur, Rs 1.70 billion for installing energy storage batteries at Jhampir Grid Station, and Rs 3.50 billion for the transmission project from the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project.
