Nepra increases electricity tariff by Rs1.19 per unit under monthly adjustment

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase of Rs1.19 per unit in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for April 2026, according to an official notification issued ahead of the federal budget.

The notification stated that the increase will apply to electricity consumers nationwide, including those served by Karachi's power utility.

The additional charge will be reflected in electricity bills issued in June 2026.

The tariff adjustment has been approved based on the monthly fuel cost variation for April and will apply to the relevant consumer categories as specified in the notification.

Earlier, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had sought an increase of Rs1.73 per unit under the April fuel cost adjustment mechanism.

After reviewing the request, Nepra approved a lower increase of Rs1.19 per unit.

The monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism allows power tariffs to be adjusted in response to fluctuations in fuel prices and electricity generation costs.
