Punjab University improves QS subject-wise ranking

Punjab University improved its subject-wise ranking released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking 2020 on Wednesday, one of the most prestigious institutions to rank universities across the globe.

According to the new ranking, PU has retained its position in Agriculture and Forestry subjects and remained among 251 to 300 top universities while improved its position in the subjects of Physics and Astronomy and has been ranked among top 451-500 universities of the world.

In 2019, PU was ranked among top 501 to 550 universities of the world in Physics and Astronomy.

University Ranking Committee Head Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood told www.24newhd.com that, “Improvement in subject ranking means a lot for Punjab University. As per UNESCO’s data, there are 28,000 universities worldwide and competing such a magnanimous number is a significant development”.

He said University ranking only improve on two factors including number and quality of research papers and university’s repute.

Moreover, Punjab University has been ranked for the first time in two subjects business and management studies and Biological Sciences and PU had got position among top 451-500 and 501-550 universities respectively.

Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz has congratulated PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad.

Minister said that Punjab University and other universities in Punjab would improve their international ranking further.

He especially appreciated the efforts of the University Ranking Committee headed by Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood. He said that the university administration was focusing on good governance, restoration of PU’s academic excellence and research with socio-economic impact. Prof Niaz has vowed to put all resources and efforts to enhance the quality of research and teaching in the university.
