Eight die in Karachi amid heatwave, suspected overdoses

At least eight people have died in Karachi in incidents linked to heat wave, suspected drug overdoses, and deteriorating health conditions, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday. 

According to officials and rescue sources, several bodies were recovered from different parts of the city, with three deaths believed to be caused by drug overdoses in areas including Manghopir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, and Defence Phase 8.

The victims, mostly unidentified men aged between 35 and 50, were found dead at separate locations, according to initial reports.

Others were found in critical condition and later died during treatment, including individuals discovered near Clifton’s Boat Basin, Liaquatabad, the Super Highway, and Surjani Town.

In a separate incident, a 55-year-old man died of suspected heatstroke near Baldia Town, rescue officials said.

Reacting to the incidents, Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and directed authorities to immediately identify the deceased and trace their families.

He also sought a detailed report from relevant officials on overdose-related deaths reported in Manghopir and Gulshan-e-Hadeed.

The chief minister instructed the health department to ensure the best possible medical care for patients under treatment in hospitals and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

He urged residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement and take precautionary measures amid the ongoing heatwave.

Karachi recorded its hottest day of the year, with temperatures reaching 44.1 degrees Celsius.
