Punjab govt to recruit medical experts on temporary basis

Punjab government has decided to recruit medical experts on temporary basis, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

In this regard, Punjab Locum Hiring Act 2025 has been passed by Punjab Assembly.

According to text of the bill, a locum policy committee will be formed under the Punjab Locum Hiring Act.

The provincial minister will be the chairperson of the specialized healthcare committee while the secretary will be the vice chairperson of the specialized healthcare committee.

Three field experts and human resources will be members of the locum policy committee.

The committee will identify the shortage of staff in the health sector.

The committee will also determine the TORs of temporary recruitment. 

The committee will determine the provisions of the recruitment period, salary and other benefits.

The committee will determine the provisions of the recruitment contract and recruitment will be done in a transparent manner.

Advertisement will be required in at least two newspapers before recruitment.

The entire recruitment procedure will be specified in the advertisements.

Those recruited on temporary basis will not be able to request to be permanent and the benefits given to permanent employees will not be given to temporary employees.

The committee will have the authority to extend or terminate the period of temporary recruitment.

The aim of the bill is to fill the shortage of staff in the health sector.
