Transgender person critically wounded in gun attack in Peshawar

A transgender man of Afghan origin was critically injured in a targeted shooting incident in the Faqirabad area of Peshawar on Sunday, raising fresh concerns over the safety of vulnerable communities in the city.

According to police, the victim—identified as Dilbar—was attacked near Iqbal Plaza shortly after returning from a musical event. He was reportedly standing outside the plaza when two armed assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire and fled the scene.

Law enforcement officials stated that the attack appears to be premeditated, adding that one of the accused, Farhan alias Adam, along with an unidentified accomplice, has reportedly claimed responsibility for the shooting.

The injured individual was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors described his condition as critical.

Police have launched an investigation and are conducting raids to apprehend the suspects. The incident has once again highlighted the persistent threats faced by transgender individuals, particularly those belonging to marginalised and refugee backgrounds, in the region.
